It Gets Better with Time: Life Lessons for Successful Living

IMG_0581 byrd 2As the celebration of my 38th birthday nears, I find myself looking over my life.  I am looking at not just accomplishments and accolades but I am looking at some of the life lessons that I had experienced.  I began reminiscing on those lessons that were life changing and mind altering. The most important ones were the lessons that would define who I would be as a person, and as a woman.  Those lessons that changed the essence of who I was through the constant evolving of certain attitudes and perspectives.

I believe all women have those times that I like to call those, ‘defining moments.’   Like the time I had made a premature business decision to partner with someone whose vision and insight about business was totally opposite of what I had envisioned.  I knew it my heart it was not the right decision but I did not go with my inner voice, my faith voice. That decision cost me some friendships and almost my personal ministry.

I think many women also experience those lessons that teach us to be our authentic selves. Those memorable times when we make a fool of ourselves to impress others.  We try to pretend to be someone we are not only to find out that we can keep up the façade as long as we thought.

And lastly those lessons that teach us that if we are going to move forward in the plan God has for our lives that we have to learn what it really means to forgive.  Forgiveness is the platinum of all lessons.  If we can let go and trust that the hurt we feel can be healed.   If we keep the faith and we then can allow time to run its course.  In each relationship, in my career, in my ministry I am finding as I grow, those around me are growing too.  Everyone is pushing through a process of redefining and refinement.  We are all striving to be better!  And as I move into this next phase of my life, I am taking these life lessons and posting them in the auspicious places of my mind so that I may continue to grow, mature, and prosper in every area of my life. Let’s review.

#1 Trust your faith voice

God has given each one of us an inner navigation system to help us make intelligent decisions; we just have to learn how to use it.

#2 To Thine own self be True

Being who you are and are called to be should be the first principle taught little girls in kindergarten.

#3 Forgiveness is a gift to push you towards your next level.

Your ability to forgive releases you for the next blessing.  The power to accept what has happened and move on is what separates the successful women from the unsuccessful.
